GLP-1 Protein Bar Checklist

GLP-1 Protein Bar Checklist

Before you buy any protein bar on Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound — check these five things.

The GLP-1 Protein Checklist

  • Zero sugar alcohols — no erythritol, maltitol, sorbitol, or xylitol in the ingredient list
  • Zero high-intensity sweeteners — no sucralose, acesulfame potassium, stevia, or monk fruit (even plant-derived, these can irritate a GLP-1 stomach)
  • Zero seed oils — no sunflower, canola, soybean, or palm kernel oil
  • Short ingredient list — 10 ingredients or fewer; ideally 4–7
  • Ingredients you recognize — whole foods you could find in a grocery store

Why This Matters on GLP-1

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound slow gastric emptying — meaning food stays in your stomach significantly longer than usual. Ingredients that might be tolerable under normal digestion can cause nausea, bloating, and cramping when they sit in a GLP-1 stomach for hours.

Sugar alcohols, artificial sweeteners, and fiber additives are the three biggest culprits. In our review of 11 top-selling protein bar brands, all 11 contain at least one of these categories. Zero brands meet all five checklist criteria — except one.

🚩 Red Flags to Look For

  • Erythritol, maltitol, sorbitol, xylitol, isomalt — any sugar alcohol
  • Sucralose, acesulfame potassium, "stevia extract" — any high-intensity sweetener (even plant-derived)
  • Chicory root fiber, inulin, soluble corn fiber, polydextrose — fermentable fiber isolates
  • Sunflower oil, canola oil, soybean oil, palm kernel oil — seed oils
  • "Natural flavors" — an umbrella term for up to 100+ flavoring compounds

The Bar That Passes All Five
